Macromorphology

Description
Brown, fleshy, unbranched non-photosynthetic and reproductive stems, 10-25 cm long with brown scale leave and 10-40 mm spore cone emerge in the spring. Then they wither and sterile, photosynthetic green stems emerge, with internodes and leaf-sheats, short teeth, dark, with narrow scarious margin. Leaves are small, scalelike, basally connate forming a toothed sheath.
